Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 31, 2026
Marble is a Mac app that helps you write and edit using AI. This policy explains, in plain language, what data Marble handles, where it goes, and the choices you have.
The short version
- Marble works without an account. No sign-up, email, or password.
- Nothing is sent until you finish setup and make your data-sharing choice.
- When you use an AI action, the text or screenshot involved goes to our AI provider, OpenAI, to create your result.
- We don't sell your data, show ads, or use third-party trackers.
What Marble sends when you use it
When you trigger an AI action (for example, ⌘M), Marble sends the following to our backend, which forwards it to OpenAI:
- The text you've selected, or a screenshot of your screen if nothing is selected.
- Any context you've pinned (text or images).
- Any custom instruction you've typed.
This is used only to generate your result and return it to you. You control what you select or capture, so please avoid sending confidential or sensitive information you don’t want processed. OpenAI acts as our service provider and, per its API data-usage policy, does not use this data to train its models.
Stored on your device
Your preferences, custom instructions, hotkeys, and an anonymous installation ID are stored locally on your Mac. They don’t leave your device except as described below.
Optional analytics (your choice)
During setup you choose whether to share usage data so we can understand and improve how Marble is used:
- If you opt in: we store a record of each action (the action type, the model used, your custom instruction, and, optionally, the screenshot involved), linked to a random installation ID.
- If you opt out: we store only an anonymous count that an action happened, with no content, instructions, or screenshots.
- Until you make a choice, nothing is sent.
You can change this choice at any time in the app.
Where your data goes
We rely on a small number of service providers to run Marble. Each processes data only to provide its service to us. See the full Subprocessors list for details.
- OpenAI: generates AI results from your request.
- Vercel: hosts our website and backend.
- Supabase: stores opt-in analytics and screenshots.
- Upstash: protects the service from abuse (rate limiting).
Network requests also expose basic technical information such as your IP address and approximate country to these providers, used for security and abuse prevention.
Data retention
Data on your device stays until you uninstall Marble. Opt-in analytics are kept while they remain useful for improving Marble. Abuse-prevention logs (such as IP request counts) are kept briefly, for about 30 days.
Your choices
- Use Marble without sharing any usage data by opting out.
- Uninstalling Marble removes the data stored locally on your device.
- If you have questions about this policy or your data, you can reach us through trymarble.app.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top of this page.
